Professionalism in Business
Owning a business is not an easy task. It comes with great responsibility and can be very stressful. Running it can be a double kill. A Hands-on businessman can be glamorous and demanding at the same time.
I guess maintaining professionalism is one issue to deal with seriously in every business. Some businesses fall apart due to this issue. So what exactly happens if unprofessionalism is rampant within the business? The business will not grow. The big question will be: how to maintain Professionalism in Business?
Tons of research is poured over to formulate not so complicated rules to maintain Professionalism in Business:
1. Do not be late. Tardiness is one way to spot an unprofessional employer/ employee. It shows that one can’t manage his time well and that he can’t make it on his/ her prescribed call time. Timing speaks about how one can make it to work, how they can utilize their time, and how can they get things done on time and to avoid backlogs.
2. When you say something, even if you are wrong, honor it. It boils down to one’s integrity. This rule not only goes to the Leader but to the subordinates as well. If one has reliability he/she can be trusted. If the circle of trust is established, work is smooth sailing and the revenues will soar.
3. Practice what you preach. It has all been said and done but there are some who keep on breaking the rules. I guess the true blue Leader is one that is practicing what he is preaching. If the leader is late, chances are, his employees will be late as well. If the leader is not trust worthy, his employees will not recognize respect as a core value and the true vision mission of the company.
4. Problems at home, have to stay there. Problems at the office leave it there as well. Pretty straightforward tip. If one is carrying the burdens at home to the office, it will cloud his thoughts and can’t function well. A non-functioning boss/employee will have a major effect to the company’s production on a daily basis.
5. Work is work. Friends and families can be a handful to deal with if they happen to know the boss on a personal level. Make it a point to draw a line of professionalism between the leader and the subordinate even if you are having beer, dinner or late night parties with them.
I guess leadership is measured on how one maintains Professionalism in Business/ office. A great leader is seen as a mentor, a mirror, a good friend and a hero rolled into one.
